Built in 1896, the gothic style building was dubbed Birkett’s Castle. The “Castle” has served as the Japanese Embassy and as headquarters of different organizations, such as the Canadian Boy Scouts Association and the Heritage Canada Foundation. In 1994 the Hungarian Government bought the building and since then it has been serving as the Residence of the Ambassador.

In 1866, Mother Marie of the Order of Our Lady of Charity came to Ottawa to conduct mission work in a building on this site. By 1877, a spacious new monastery building was constructed, which was further expanded in 1895. Following a devastating 1938 fire, the monastery was rebuilt. In 1972, the Chinese government purchased it as Chinese Embassy’s chancery. Pre-registration required, opening TBD.

Since the late 1940s, this building has housed three embassies — the Uruguayan Embassy, the Embassy of the Hungarian People’s Republic, and the current one. In 1995, the mansion was purchased and donated to the Republic of Armenia by a prominent Armenian-American businessman and philanthropist. Each year, they welcome hundreds of visitors interested in architecture and Armenian history.

Enriched Bread Artists is a not-for-profit collective of visual artists working in a range of media and techniques. It was formed in 1992 by graduates of the University of Ottawa looking for studio space and an artistic community beyond university. Today, its membership is global. The name refers to the former bread factory where these studios are located.

The Erland Lee (Museum) Home is a National Historic Site that serves to tell three stories: that of the Lee family (who lived in the home from 1808-1970), the Stoney Creek community and the Women's Institute (which was founded in the home's dining room in February 1897). The Lee Home is a beautiful example of carpenter's Gothic architecture.

The Ermatinger Old Stone House is one of the oldest stone buildings northwest of Toronto. Charles Ermatinger and his wife Mananowe (Charlotte) ran their home and business here during the fur trade era. It has served many purposes over the years — hotel, sheriff's residence, courthouse and apartments. Restored from 1967-70, the building is now a historical site and museum.

Estonian Museum Canada presents its home, Tartu College, as part of Doors Open Toronto 2025. Built in 1970, the college is known mostly as a student residence. But, for local Estonians, it is one of their most important cultural community centres, featuring diverse and lively programs. Their collection has grown into what is now the largest Estonian-themed collection outside Estonia.

Constructed in 1880, this building was Niagara's first telephone exchange. In 2015, it was transformed into a brewery but retains some of its original features. Original hemlock floor joists became the second-floor bar and tabletops. Some nods to the building's use as a telephone exchange include brewing numbers (instead of names) and a tasting board shaped like a rotary dial.

The Exchange is a 3048-square-metre (10,000-square-foot) indoor/outdoor multipurpose event space created to host the city's food, music, art and culture scenes. The Exchange is the home to artist & woodworking studios, an art gallery, cafe and the Arts & Culture Wall of Fame. It offers one of the best-preserved late-18th-century buildings in Ontario. During Doors Open, learn about the Fairfield family and early Loyalist settlers. And witness how settlement began here with just tents, basic rations and tools from the Crown.

The Fairfield-Gutzeit House is situated along the Loyalist Parkway overlooking Lake Ontario. A public park and playground are within walking distance and there are many local businesses offering unique finds and tasty treats. The house dates back to 1796 and was designated in 1992. It was built by William Fairfield Jr., whose parents’ 1793 homestead stands in nearby Fairfield Park.

One of the earliest surviving Scottish stone cottages in Cambridge, this charming 19th-century building offers a glimpse into early life in Galt. It was the home of William Ferguson, a blacksmith from Scotland and remained in the Ferguson family for about 80 years. The tiny, designated heritage building, built of local stone, is now home to the Galt Horticultural Society.
