Having outgrown an earlier church, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian was constructed in 1872 with wood provided by Ottawa lumber baron, J.R. Booth. Of note are the splendid stained-glass windows and the high vaulted ceilings. The raised pulpit is uniquely placed along the west wall. This placement follows the Scottish Presbyterian tradition that sees the ministers as teachers, with children around them.

Founded in 1826, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church is celebrating 200 years of serving the community of Ancaster. Church services are held Sundays at 10:30 am. The accessible entrance is ready to welcome all guests. We share our space with Ancaster Village Church who hold services at 5:00 pm on Sundays. In addition, the 300-monument church cemetery is well known to genealogists.

This church marks the place where Scarborough began. The first parcel of land, where their cemetery now stands, was severed from the farm of Scarborough's first European settlers, David and Mary Thompson. The congregation began in 1818, making it Scarborough’s oldest Christian congregation and Toronto’s oldest Presbyterian church. Visit the cemetery and sanctuary to learn about the church’s impact.

When St. Andrew's was built, its location at King and Simcoe streets was busy; most congregants lived within walking distance. Across the street stood Government House, the official residence of Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor. Upper Canada College stood on a second corner, and on a third was a popular tavern. The four corners became known as “legislation, education, damnation and salvation."

Step inside St. Anne’s School, a beautifully restored Jacobean-style building. Constructed in 2008 as a private residence, it was transformed in 2023 into York Region’s first independent all-girls school. Along with structural upgrades and modern systems, there are striking architectural features — gables, parapets, chimneys and intricate brickwork. The result is an inspiring space for learning, designed with intention and care.

Designed by Toronto architect Charles T. Gibson, the foundation stone of the Church was laid in 1893. The church features local red-brown sandstone, a slate roof, solid wooden beams with turned drop finials, intricately carved paneling and stained-glass windows dedicated to local citizens. The collection of vestments and candelabra will also be on display. Live music will play throughout the day!

St. Barnabas is a site of architectural and ecclesiastical heritage and is one of the oldest Anglican parishes in Toronto. The current red brick building was built in phases between 1910 and 1925. Stained-glass windows and carved-oak woodwork dominate the interior. During Doors Open, the archivist and volunteers will answer questions while volunteer musicians showcase the church’s excellent acoustics.

The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre showcases the city’s history through artifacts and exhibits overlooking Lock 3 of the Welland Ship Canal and the nearby Welland Canals Fallen Workers Memorial. Its galleries explore earlier canals, the Underground Railroad, and the contributions of immigrant and Freedom Seeker communities in the 1850s, alongside exhibits on women’s history and local industry.

Take a guided stroll along the quiet streets of the Yates Street Heritage District, only steps from bustling downtown St. Catharines. This architectural heritage tour is led by Brian Narhi, chair of the City’s Heritage Advisory Committee. Hike begins at the St. Catharines Cenotaph at 6 St Paul Street West and ends at St. Thomas Anglican Church; Pre-registration Required.

This Catholic church was built in 1829. The spire is 54 metres high (176 feet) and is visible from downtown Cornwall. The grounds to the east of the church were the first burial grounds of the parish. Today, it is known as the old cemetery, marked by the calvary scene sculpture composed of the headstones collected from the early cemetery.

This parish was founded in 1976 to serve Brampton’s Ukrainian Catholics. The site was purchased in 1985, chartered as a cemetery in 1993, with a temple built in 1995. The silhouette seen from Heritage Road and Bovaird Drive replicates churches found in Western Ukraine. The original timber structure burned down in 2014 and was rebuilt in 2016.

Founded in 1833, St. Finnan's Basilica is one of the birthplaces of Catholicism in Canada. The Eucharist has been celebrated here since it opened. Parishioners have congregated to celebrate baptisms, marriages, confirmations and ordinations for generations. In 2021, it was designated a minor basilica by the Pope. It is renowned for its distinctive architectural styles and beautiful stained-glass windows.

This church is an active community member — with bi-monthly neighbourhood dinners, the O’Share program for those with food and housing insecurity, the annual Great Lakes Sailors Blessing of the Fleet, community concerts, the weekly Shoreline Chorus and a weekly youth karate group in the parish hall. A synagogue until 1937, St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church stands as a dynamic affirmation of the spiritual and artistic achievement of the Byzantine religious tradition. Except for its Romanesque façade and a few Moorish capitals, the renovated structure is now more thoroughly Byzantine in its layout and esthetic décor. The church interior has been entirely painted by master iconographers.

The current stone St. George’s Memorial Church — a distinctive landmark in Oshawa for 100 years — replaced a wooden structure that previously stood on this site. It continues to have an integral place in the city’s history, recognized by its bell tower and carillon. During Doors Open, come and view the church’s interior, which showcases its architectural artistry, beauty and serenity.

St. George's on-the-Hill has been a landmark in Etobicoke for 180 years. Built in 1847, the church building has undergone many renovations but still incorporates the original structure in the centre of its worship space. Highlights include many stained-glass windows (including the modern "Children of the Bible" window), a Casavant pipe organ, an 1865 font and the parish's small cemetery.

St. George’s, the first established church in St. Catharines, celebrates its 235th anniversary next year. The grey stone church features carved stone, stained glass, war memorials, and a magnificent pipe organ, creating an inspiring setting for worship. It also supports a daily breakfast program and serves as a hub for shelter, community gathering, and music programs for all ages.

St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church is an English-speaking parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, located in the former Queen of Angels Roman Catholic Church. Since its 2013 purchase, the sanctuary has been transformed with Byzantine-style iconography, including works by Alexander Schelechow and Hanan Houli, reflecting a growing, vibrant community rooted in tradition and faith.

This Gothic-revival cobblestone church was built in 1839 by Levi Boughton in Upper Town on land purchased from town founder, Hiram Capron. Inside, there are unique features often unseen, including a one-of-kind Lepers Window, one of only two working tracker organs in Canada, military plaques and beautiful stained-glass windows.

This 1836 garrison church was built by the soldiers of the military and naval establishment that previously occupied the site, established to repel the American invasion of 1812. Simple yet attractive, this church has been restored to its original state, with wooden shingles, clapboard siding and handmade iron decoration.

The Chapel of St. James-the-Less is a mid-19th-century Victorian Gothic revival funeral chapel that is picturesquely set atop a small, landscaped knoll just inside the main gates of Toronto’s St. James’ Cemetery. Designed by Cumberland and Storm, it was designated a National Historic Site in 1990. It is enhanced by its elevated position, surrounded by the peaceful cemetery.

This church features a simple Gothic Revival style with a gable roof, belfry with pointed arches, buttresses, a brick vestibule, chancel and side wing, and a rose window. The building hosts the Light on the Hill Church an evangelical family church that serves Richmond Hill and York Region. Tour the building, cemetery and gardens, explore historical artifacts and enjoy all-day breakfast.

Founded in 1935, the congregation purchased a building at Simcoe and Bloor Streets, serving as both Church and Parish Hall. Following construction of this Temple in 1949, the original building was transformed into the Parish Hall, later named Odesa Hall.  A new, accessible hall was added to the building in 2020.

Celebrating its 200th anniversary, St. John’s is Peterborough’s oldest church. The church was built of Jackson Creek limestone in 1835-37 and is one of the earliest examples of Gothic Revival architecture in Ontario. Come and admire the beautiful stained glass and other features of this vibrant Anglican parish that serves both the spiritual and material needs of the community.

This church — complete with belfry and three bells — is an architectural gem. It was built on the McLennan Estate in 1898. Surrounded by parkland, it is commonly known as "The Church in the Wildwood." It is part of the Area Parish of the St. Lawrence, along with Christ Church Seaway in Long Sault and Trinity Church in Cornwall.
