Step inside Ontario's public education broadcaster! For the first time, TVO is participating in Doors Open Toronto, welcoming visitors for a behind-the-scenes look at their newly renovated William G. Davis Studio. Visitors will get a unique look at television production, exploring how one flexible space is home to many productions. Lots of kids’ activities and even special appearances by Polkaroo.

This traditional Ukrainian church, built in the Baroque-revival style, features gorgeous hand-painted iconography, ornate woodwork and a unique mosaic mural of our Lady of Holy Protection. Constructed in 1909 as the Toronto Reference Library, this striking building was designated in 1973. Since then, it has undergone a thoughtful transformation into a vibrant student services hub. Today, it is the flagship retail location for the University of Toronto Press. The interior retains many of its original features. The Department of Physics at the University of Toronto — with its hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students — is located inside the McLennan Physical Labs. The building is named after John C. McLennan, a professor who laid the foundation for quantum optics and condensed matter, and subatomic and atmospheric physics. The building features the 14-storey Burton Tower, which houses its telescopes.

The City of Toronto transformed this underused city works yard into a youth skills hub — providing spaces for young people to explore digital arts, culinary arts, music production and more. During Doors Open, the site comes alive with immersive/interactive art installations. For more than 60 years, The Village at Black Creek has enabled Torontonians to explore the past and reflect on the present. With 40 historical buildings, 60 rare- and heritage-breed animals, six gardens growing flowers and plants from heirloom seeds, and one-of-a-kind programs that engage people of all ages, there’s something for everyone. This building once housed a market, police station and public library. Decommissioned in the early 1920s, it sat vacant for over a decade until the city turned it into the Waterworks Building as part of an initiative to create jobs during the Great Depression. The designated building was redeveloped in 2016 for mixed-use condos, a YMCA and food hall.

The West Toronto Lawn Bowling Club is a Junction original, having occupied a corner of Baird Park since 1912. On its two lush greens, people have been enjoying the fun, easy-to-learn game of lawn bowls for 110 years. The clubhouse is architecturally unique, with six Tuscan pillars on its porch. It is the only clubhouse of this design in Canada.

This building, one of the few remaining Masonic sites in operation in Toronto, is home to the Humber Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons (instituted in 1874). The main lodge room and banquet hall are steeped in the history of the area with furnishings, photos and other items that date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This charming 19th-century opens into the Ruth Upjohn Gallery and the Dignam Art Gallery, named after the founder and first president, Mary Ella Dignam, who was a pioneer in Canada’s arts and crafts movement. The gallery spaces and formal sunken garden are great for exhibits and receptions, parties and weddings. There is also a formal library and many studios.

Xpace Cultural Centre is a Toronto-based, artist-run contemporary art gallery that features a street-level exhibition in its Window Space. The Main Space and Project Space host additional exhibitions inside. Dedicated to supporting emerging artists, writers, designers and curators, Xpace presents exhibitions and public programming that invite experimentation and dialogue, offering an introduction to contemporary art in an accessible, street-level space.

Built in 1888 for industrial use by Gooderham and Worts, the Young Centre for the Performing Arts was adapted and reopened in 2006 as a performing arts facility with much of the original architecture still intact. The Young Centre was envisioned by George Brown College and Soulpepper Theatre Company as a home for Toronto's arts community and theatre lovers.

Youngplace is a community cultural hub in the West Queen West area whose spaces include artists’ studios, a public lounge, café and free public art galleries. The Experience Centre provides an immersive experience that invites the public to explore the vision for YZD — a historical $30-billion transformation of the former Downsview Airport lands. The centre also provides visitors with an overview of this generational city-building opportunity, which includes seven new neighbourhoods. It looks to welcome more than 55,000 residents and create employment for 23,000 people.

One of Toronto’s only renewable-energy sites open for public tours, the ZooShare Biogas Plant generates enough renewable energy to power 250 homes and businesses. Each year, they use 15,000 tonnes of inedible food waste and 2,000 tonnes of manure from the Toronto Zoo to create biogas, which is converted into electricity.
