The Gothic Revival style architecture was built in 1934, in 1935 the bell was installed, and in 1936 it received a crown endowment (the last granted in Canada). The construction of the Church was funded by Admiral Vansittart and his agent Captain Andrew Drew. During the Upper Canada Rebellion, the church was also used as a jail in 1936-7. From 1879-1882 it closed briefly while New St. Paul’s was completed. The church was designated an Ontario Historical Site in 1958.
