The ByWard Market has been the focal point of Lowertown since 1848, and this particular site has served as a market since1875. The present ByWard Market Building, designed in 1927-1928 by architects Richards and Abra, is the fifth to house Ottawa’s public market. The ByWard Market Building is home to food merchants, specialty boutiques and artisans operating in a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces.
