The Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) is the steward for the Sir Sam Steele Memorial Building in downtown Orillia. The museum brings people together, providing a safe space for collaboration to inspire creativity and celebrate history. The museum is responsible for the ongoing development and preservation of the cultural vitality in Orillia and surrounding areas.

The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is home to the art and artists of the Ottawa-Gatineau region, now housing a collection that numbers over 1,450 works — including paintings, sculpture, graphic arts, photographs and new media. In April 2018, OAG opened this modern purpose-built space. The gallery explores and reflects on diversity and social change through a spectrum of visual arts practices.

Come and visit this plaza during Doors Open Ottawa. Construction is underway to restore and modernize the Centre Block and advance construction of Canada’s new Parliament Welcome Centre. Though the Centre Block is currently closed, visitors during Doors Open can view a special exhibit featuring videos, images and information about the design plans for the building and the Parliamentary Precinct.

The Peel County Courthouse, a designated heritage site, and the Peel Jail, now home to the museum, have important stories to tell. Come and discover the rich history of this museum’s historical buildings — including the courthouse, jail and Land Registry Office. During Doors Open, enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the facilities. The RiverBrink Art Museum is a fine-art museum featuring changing exhibitions from the renowned art collection of Samuel E. Weir, as well as outstanding works on loan from contemporary artists and Canadian and international collections. Current exhibitions will feature oil portraits by Mark Crofton Bell. There is also a library and gift shop onsite.

The Royal Ontario Museum has been a beloved Toronto institution since it opened in 1914. For Doors Open, only the Daphne Cockwell Gallery – dedicated to First Peoples’ art and culture – and the recently reimagined Weston entrance with its iconic mosaic-domed rotunda will be free to visit. Admission will be required to see other galleries.

At 856 seats, the Festival Theatre is the Shaw's largest venue. Built in the modernist style, it was designed to provide a spacious yet intimate audience experience. While touring backstage, you will hear stories from docents about the history of the theatre, the ensemble, and secrets of the 2022 season. Come and learn about the importance of real human connection!

The Simcoe County Museum offers a variety of events, exhibits and programs for all ages throughout the year. Visitors can discover Simcoe County's history through hands-on exploration and interactive displays. From prehistoric to modern times, the museum depicts the people, events and artifacts from Simcoe County's diverse past — everything from mastodons to hair wreaths and wedding gowns to farm machinery.

Built as Fort William’s police station and courthouse, the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society opened its major exhibit gallery here in 1997. Visit the Thunder Bay Museum during Doors Open Thunder Bay 2022 for back-of-house artifact collection storage tours, artifact displays on the early foodways and agricultural development in the area, as well as a museum-wide family-friendly scavenger hunt.

Built in 1860 along the shores of the Rideau River, Watson’s Mill remains active as a water-powered flour mill. Nearby Dickinson House, built in 1867, displays the heritage home of the past mill owners. Dickinson Square is the only industrial heritage site in Ottawa. The site comes to life through tours by costumed interpreters and milling demonstrations.

The style and construction of the Custom House, one of Canada’s oldest remaining federal public buildings, reflect the rise of Hamilton as a major railway and port. Often cited as one of Hamilton’s foremost architectural landmarks, it currently houses the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre, a community museum dedicated to celebrating all working people through art, history and culture.

The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Tay, Ontario offers 1,214 hectares (3,000 acres) of national wildlife area and provincially significant wetlands. Its mission is to be a centre of excellence for wetlands research, interpretation and education based on the principle of stewardship and the importance of environmental awareness. Open 362 days a year, visitors of all ages and abilities are encouraged to discover raptors and reptiles, explore hiking, cross country ski and snowshoe on its trails, experience canoeing and kayaking through the marsh channels, and visit the observation tower, floating boardwalks, waterfowl monitoring platform, wildflower gardens, the bee house and so much more! But Wye Marsh is more than a tourist attraction. More than 6,000 students take part in educational programs every year, and the stewardship program initiatives include monitoring of wildlife populations and habitat conservation. The Wye Marsh is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but you are encouraged to check their website before visiting as some programming is not available during the COVID-19 pandemic.
