Doors Open Ontario:

London

in-person event information

September 16 and 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The theme for the 22nd annual Doors Open London is “London’s heritage through cuisine.” This concept incorporates both the nutritional and social value of food, allowing participants and attendees to explore London’s history and culture through cuisine.

This unique two-day event allows participating sites to showcase how cuisine has impacted their organizations, the way they tell their stories, and the everyday lives of Londoners. Over 40 sites will be open for exploration free of charge for residents and visitors. They may spotlight local artisan chefs, host demonstrations related to food, offer tours of their facilities, or run activities that demonstrate London’s heritage through the role of cuisine. Examples of activities include farm tours, kitchen tours, cooking classes, re-enactment dinners and interactive history lessons.

This annual event has become widely recognized as a weekend of communal gathering, celebration and recognition for London’s heritage sector, featuring hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind the scenes.” The weekend also aims to provide a range of activities to ensure that all community members can match their curiosities and embrace opportunities for public engagement.

Event volunteer roles are varied, such as providing guided tours of the site, managing crowds, managing the artists/performers as they perform through the weekend, and performing dance, music and/or historical re-enactments.

We invite you to reach out directly to a site if you wish to volunteer with them. Thank you.
