L’église anglicane St. John’s est l’un des plus anciens bâtiments du village historique de Stewarttown. C’est également l’une des plus vieilles églises de la région de Halton, datant de 1840. Désignée en 2023 comme ayant une valeur patrimoniale, cette église pittoresque aux caractéristiques architecturales particulières reflète une grande partie de l’histoire locale. Visitez-la pendant les Portes ouvertes et découvrez-la par vous-même.

Avant la construction de cette église, un magasin général se trouvait ici, mais il a été réduit en cendres. La congrégation locale a acheté la propriété et fait ériger une église, celle-ci, dont le service inaugural a eu lieu le 24 février 1895. Le grand orgue a été installé en 1925. En 1970, l’église a accueilli un bureau de ministre. L’ascenseur est un ajout apporté en 2013.

L’église Saint Alban the Martyr date de 1875, et l’éclairage électrique n’est installé qu’en 1899, un an après la construction du clocher. En 1951, la salle paroissiale est construite, nommée en l’honneur du révérend William Luxton décédé subitement en 1952. Le narthex est construit en 1985 grâce aux fonds légués à l’église par la famille Bennett.

L’hôtel de ville d’Acton, érigé en 1883, est un exemple de bâtiment victorien d’inspiration italienne. On y trouvait la salle du conseil municipal, des bureaux pour la mairie, le greffe et les services d’incendie et de police ainsi que deux cellules de prison. L’ajout, en 2010, d’une salle communautaire a permis d’améliorer l’accessibilité et de créer une aire d’exposition pour faire connaître le patrimoine. Ce lieu de rassemblement, au cœur d’Acton, témoigne d’une revitalisation réussie.

Vous trouverez, cachée dans le quartier du parc de Georgetown, une maisonnette en rondins. Ce petit bijou a été construit vers 1843 dans le canton de Chinguacousy, puis déplacé à son emplacement actuel en 1917 pour servir de pavillon au club de boulingrin local. Il est encore activement utilisé de nos jours. C’est un excellent exemple de réutilisation adaptative.

Sur un terrain offert à l’époque par Charles Williams, une salle communautaire en briques est construite ici en 1871, avec l’aide de la société de tempérance locale. Neuf personnes siègent à son conseil d’administration, qui lance les célébrations annuelles de la fête du Canada en guise de remerciement à la communauté. Fait intéressant : Lucy Maud Montgomery y produit et met en scène des pièces dans les années 1920 et 1930.

The Brockton Heritage Committee's archival collection is located in the former Township of Greenock's Council Chambers located in the current Greenock Works Shop. The archival collection consists of historic artifacts and memorable donations within Brockton's community.

Bruce County Books is a bookstore entirely focused on titles and authors relating to Bruce County history, architecture, literature, agriculture and tourism.

Bruce County’s Walkerton Patrol Shop, located at 94 Bruce Road 2, was originally constructed in 1960 with four vehicle storage bays (including an inspection pit), and a small two-storey office, employee amenities, and storage area. In 1985, two additional vehicle storage bays were added to the building. In 2004, the four original vehicle storage bays were expanded in depth to accommodate vehicle maintenance activities. The original part of the building is now used for vehicle storage by night, and vehicle maintenance by day. The two-bay addition is used as a welding/fabrication shop. The office, employee amenities, and storage area is also used to house the Sign Shop and the vehicle parts storage. The building is able to store 4 tandem axle trucks, 1 one-ton truck, and a number of work tools and small equipment. The Cargill Museum brings to life Cargill's early history as the lumbering and entrepreneurial heart of Bruce County. Henry Cargill was the largest employer and wealthiest man in the County and built a thriving rural town of diversified pioneering industries with early amenities such as electricity, telephone, fire department and library. The Museum is located in Cargill's former Royal Bank which has been restored to include the original tin ceiling, bank vault and hardwood floors.

Commemorating the diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria's reign, this unique High Victorian style building was constructed in 1897 and cost just over $10,000 to build. It has held municipal offices, a marketplace, police station, fire hall and living quarters for the caretaker and his family. Designed by A.R. Denison, it has eight different floor levels and a 300 seat opera house theatre with balcony - one of only a few left in their original condition in Ontario. The Hall has been drawn by noted Canadian artist David Milne. Originally slated for demolition by the municipality, in 1997 was sold for $1 to the local branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario of Ontario and has been operated by volunteers ever since.

The Walkerton Agricultural Society was formed in 1854. 2024 will be the 170th year. Many changes over the years have shaped how the fair has been held. After the Great War a new arena was built known as the Confederation Arena, where the legion is located. After outgrowing that site, the arena was moved to its present site and was known as the Memorial Arena. To provide more space for the fair, another building (#2) was moved beside the arena and a cement floor was added to be used as the Walkerton Curling Club. In the 1970's Walkerton built a new arena and the Agricultural Society assumed ownership of the old arena which became known as the Horse Palace. A new #2 building was build with community support in 1989 following an arson attack. Many renovations have been made to the Horse Palace to use it for the Fall Fair and other community events such as ice surface, Agricultural events and social activities.

L’église St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, la deuxième église presbytérienne de Fenelon Falls, date de 1895. Pendant les Portes ouvertes, les visiteurs peuvent explorer le sanctuaire. Des bénévoles seront présents pour faire visiter l’église et répondre aux questions sur le bâtiment. La messe du dimanche aura lieu entre 10 et 11 heures. Tout le monde est invité à y assister avant le début des visites à l’occasion de Portes ouvertes.

L’église anglicane et le cimetière St Peter’s étaient autrefois au service du hameau animé de Bury’s Green. Aujourd’hui privée et désaffectée, cette petite église de campagne se trouve sur les terres agricoles vallonnées au nord de Fenelon Falls. C’est une occasion unique de voir l’intérieur de ce joyau architectural et d’en apprendre davantage sur les familles locales qui y ont pratiqué leur culte.

Construite en 1887 comme église presbytérienne St. Andrew’s, cette bâtisse abrite aujourd’hui la All Nations Church et accueille le chœur des Carleton Place Town Singers pour ses concerts. Réalisée en pierre calcaire dans le style seigneurial écossais, cette structure imposante a du caractère grâce à ses tours et tourelles ornementales. Les assises décoratives, ainsi que les détails des fenêtres et des portes en pierre calcaire foncée de Beckwith contrastent avec le fond clair du bâtiment.

La première pierre de ce temple maçonnique a été posée le 20 avril 1911. Le niveau supérieur abrite la loge St. John n^o 63. Les locaux commerciaux au rez-de-chaussée étaient loués pour générer des revenus. Parmi les entreprises installées ici, il y a eu un cinéma et un journal. Le bâtiment en brique est orné de clés de voûte, de pilastres, d’entablements et d’un fronton en marbre.

Appleby United Church is celebrating 200 years of history in Burlington. The congregation has worshipped in four buildings, with the first being constructed in1824, the second in 1846 and the third in 1906. The current church building was constructed in 1959 and includes a small chapel with artifacts from previous church sites such as a communion table, officers’ chairs and a stained glass window. Make sure to check out the 40-foot long Wall of History and enjoy some refreshments during your visit!
