September 16, 2017 - September 17, 2017

Doors Open London (DOL) is the city of London’s largest collective celebration of history, heritage and culture. In its 16th year, DOL is one of the longest running community celebrations in Ontario.

This year's theme is London: Unconventional. Unbelievable. Unforgettable. This theme is a way for partnering sites and organizations to highlight activities and ideas that the public might not normally be exposed to. From offering behind-the-scenes tours, to piloting a new program or activity, to trying a wild idea for the first time, DOL offers programming that will give visitors an opportunity to participate and experience out of-the-box ideas that will create unconventional, unbelievable and unforgettable experiences!

This unique two-day heritage event opens up spaces throughout London – free of charge – for local residents and visitors to engage with. It is a weekend designed to encourage local residents and visitors to explore, ask questions and reflect as they visit a variety of organizations and venues throughout the city. This vibrant program supports the local heritage community and builds civic pride.
London is nestled in the heart of southwest Ontario near the forks of the Thames River, and is home to the region’s economic, entertainment and cultural hub. London is Canada’s 11th largest city and an ideal environment to work, play and live. London put down its creative roots early and, over the years, has nurtured a cultural heart and soul that has produced some great Canadian talent in both the visual and performing arts.

From Museum London to the main stage of The Grand Theatre, from the Royal Canadian Regiment Museum and the London Regional Children’s Museum to Banting House National Historic Site and Fanshawe Pioneer Village, culture thrives in nearly every corner of the city.

Doors Open London will provide an opportunity for all Londoners and visitors to access, discover, celebrate and learn through the many tours in museums, art galleries, theatres and other cultural hubs in London over this two-day weekend event.

Note: London Heritage Council, which spearheads and coordinates Doors Open London activities, does not directly recruit volunteers for this event weekend.

For volunteering opportunities, please contact participating sites/organizations directly.
