Burr Lodge, a historical private residence in Whitby, was built in 1855 by James Wallace, the town’s second mayor. This charming heritage property reflects mid-19th-century architecture and offers a glimpse into Whitby’s early civic history. Wallace played a significant role in the town’s development and Burr Lodge stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy.

Camp X once trained agents for secret missions behind enemy lines and hosted the largest wartime communications hub. It has been commemorated as a National Historic Site, highlighting its vital role in Allied intelligence. This facility was crucial to Allied intelligence, making it one of Canada’s most important Second World War landmarks.

On September 12, the Fieldgate Sports Complex officially opened its doors to a large crowd, welcoming residents for a free, family friendly day of sports, recreation and community celebration. The complex is a multi-purpose gathering space that supports inclusive sport, recreation and community programming, providing a place where residents can connect, play, learn and stay active.

Lynde House is Durham Region's oldest home, and a stunning example of Georgian architecture. The Museum is operated by the Whitby Historical Society, whose costumed interpreters lead tours that tell the history of Whitby, Lynde family stories and life in 19th-century Whitby. Station Gallery is a creative hub in Whitby: a public art gallery and a registered charity with four main gallery spaces, showing art exhibitions of emerging, mid-career and established artists. The Station Gallery is a resource to artists and champion of all things empowering and creative. This year, St. Johns Anglican church will be on site representing the historical church built in 1846.

Step back in time through the Werden's Plan Heritage Conservation District! Join a Walking Tour of the Werden's Plan Heritage Conservation district to discover the history of the homes and businesses in Whitby's oldest subdivision. Tours begin at the corner of Brock Street South and Burns Street at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and take approximately one hour.

The first full-time firefighters were hired by the Whitby Fire Department in 1970, with the Whitby Fire Headquarters officially opening in September 1999.
