When the local railway arrived in 1891, mills sprang up throughout the region – the most famous being the Hunter Mill. Entrepreneur John Hunter recognized an opportunity and built a sawmill and gristmill here. The lumber mill remained in operation for over 100 years. The current building was constructed in 1976 when the mill moved from water to electrical power.
