Community information

Whitchurch-Stouffville is growing rapidly. In fact, we are the second-fastest-growing community in Ontario – and the third-fastest in Canada. That alone is one of our most important strengths.

At the end of 2015, the population was estimated to be 45,335 – an 89.5 per cent increase in population since 2006. The median age is 40 years (two years lower than the Ontario average), and the population growth rate between now and 2020 is projected to be 38.3 per cent – while Ontario’s growth rate is estimated to be 5.7 per cent. The 2020 projected population of Whitchurch-Stouffville is 70,467.

We also have a diverse local economy. Our strengths include knowledge-based industries, manufacturing, building and construction as well as agriculture and tourism. We have a workforce of over 26,000 people.

Whitchurch-Stouffville is becoming more urbanized, while retaining its rural roots – offering the best of both worlds. Owing to the area’s natural beauty and recreational assets, the town has strong existing tourism attractions – including the York Region Forests, the Oak Ridges Moraine, Treetop Trekking at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area, the Lebovic Centre for the Arts and Entertainment – 19 on the Park, the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre and three local wineries.

Being close to other major urban areas is a huge asset for us. Major transportation and communication routes run through our town, directly connecting us to areas within York Region, the Greater Toronto Area and international destinations. Most of our town is located within the Greenbelt, which includes the Oak Ridges Moraine. While Whitchurch-Stouffville is known for its beautiful setting, industry-based activities – such as agriculture and aggregate extraction – help to drive our economy forward.

There is something for everyone in Whitchurch-Stouffville – country life, city life and everything in between – not only for our residents, but also for our businesses and visitors.
