Doors Open Erin is a self-guided tour. Most of the sites in the downtown areas are walkable, while other sites will require transportation. Please check this website for information about onsite parking and accessibility. Note that it may be necessary to remove your shoes at some sites.
Discover fascinating and sometimes hidden treasures in the Town of Erin. The Town of Erin will also be hosting guided historical walking tours and extra fun activities for the whole family! Get your passport signed by at least four participating sites and fill out a visitor survey to enter a draw to win a one-night stay for two at either Tailwinds B&B or Hillsburgh House by the Pond bed and breakfast.
You don't have to be a heritage expert to enjoy a Doors Open adventure!

Erin is a beautiful place to visit and find your roots in small-town charm and rural simplicity. Heritage buildings, winding country roads and fertile farmers’ fields abound.

Century Church Theatre Doors Open Erin
Built in 1906, this church has original elm panelling and curved pews, stained-glass windows, horse-tethering rings and many features that were modern for its time. Regular services ended in 2003, although the Good Friday service continued until 2014. The church is now the home of the Century Church Theatre, as well as one of Ontario’s largest bat colonies!

Devonshire Guest House Doors Open Erin
This stately guest house sits on part of the original 200 acres (81 hectares) of Crown land that Abraham Nelles claimed in 1820 and sold to Daniel McMillan in 1836. In 1846, Daniel sold half the land to Charles McMillan, who built the house. Now a bed and breakfast, the house has original stained glass, wood trim and hardware.

Erin Cenotaph Doors Open Erin
New
The Erin Cenotaph was unveiled on Remembrance Day – November 11, 1956 – by local member of the provincial parliament John Root. The dedication was made by Reverend E.D. Snelgrove as a memorial to those named thereon who gave their lives in the defence of Canada and freedom. Plaques have subsequently been added to recognize the Korean War, post-war operations and Afghanistan.

Everdale Doors Open Erin
Everdale is an organic teaching farm in Erin. This not-for-profit farm believes in the power of locally grown food to fuel positive economic, social and ecological change. They also run several programs for kids and adults. In addition, they host farm festivals throughout the year. Come and explore everything this farm has to offer! Local artist display on site!

Join members of the local heritage community on a one-hour guided walking tour of Hillsburgh. Meet at 1 p.m. at the Elora-Cataract Trailhead (11 Station Street, Hillsburgh). See part of the Gooderham Works distillery empire, the pioneer cemetery and a wonderful variety of heritage homes. Bring your walking shoes.

The LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society is a registered charity that provides Ontario’s thoroughbred racehorses with a happy and dignified retirement when their careers at the track are over, and to educate Ontario’s horse industry and the public about the merits of this program. They currently care for over 50 retirees at their Hillsburgh farm while they await loving new homes.

Stanley Park Gates and Arch Doors Open Erin

From 1888 until the late 1950s, Stanley Park in Erin Village was a southern Ontario tourism mecca. Imagine direct trains from Union Station, grand parades, bicycle racing, horse racing, boating, cottages and a large dance pavilion. While the park is no longer, the arch and gates from c. 1920 remain as a cultural reminder – now protected with a heritage design.

Woodlands Farm Doors Open Erin

Woodlands Farm raises thoroughbred racehorses. This land, part of the McKinnon ancestral farm, has raised multiple Queen's Quineas winners and a Queen's Plate champion. Residing at the farm are this year's foals and their mothers, young racehorses in training, as well as older horses. The owners look forward to introducing you to these beautiful animals. They love company. Bring carrots!
