Doors Open Erin is a self-guided tour. Most of the sites in the downtown areas are walkable, while other sites will require transportation. Please check this website for information about onsite parking and accessibility. Note that it may be necessary to remove your shoes at some sites.

Discover fascinating and sometimes hidden treasures in the Town of Erin. The Town of Erin will also be hosting guided historical walking tours and extra fun activities for the whole family! Get your passport signed by at least four participating sites and fill out a visitor survey to enter a draw to win a one-night stay for two at either Tailwinds B&B or Hillsburgh House by the Pond bed and breakfast.

You don't have to be a heritage expert to enjoy a Doors Open adventure!

Century Church Theatre Doors Open Erin

Century Church Theatre

Built in 1906, this church has original elm panelling and curved pews, stained-glass windows, horse-tethering rings and many features that were modern for its time. Regular services ended in 2003, although the Good Friday service continued until 2014. The church is now the home of the Century Church Theatre, as well as one of Ontario’s largest bat colonies!

Devonshire Guest House Doors Open Erin

Devonshire Guest House

This stately guest house sits on part of the original 200 acres (81 hectares) of Crown land that Abraham Nelles claimed in 1820 and sold to Daniel McMillan in 1836. In 1846, Daniel sold half the land to Charles McMillan, who built the house. Now a bed and breakfast, the house has original stained glass, wood trim and hardware.

Erin Cenotaph Doors Open Erin

Erin Cenotaph

The Erin Cenotaph was unveiled on Remembrance Day – November 11, 1956 – by local member of the provincial parliament John Root. The dedication was made by Reverend E.D. Snelgrove as a memorial to those named thereon who gave their lives in the defence of Canada and freedom. Plaques have subsequently been added to recognize the Korean War, post-war operations and Afghanistan.

From 1888 until the late 1950s, Stanley Park in Erin Village was a southern Ontario tourism mecca. Imagine direct trains from Union Station, grand parades, bicycle racing, horse racing, boating, cottages and a large dance pavilion. While the park is no longer, the arch and gates from c. 1920 remain as a cultural reminder – now protected with a heritage design.

Woodlands Farm raises thoroughbred racehorses. This land, part of the McKinnon ancestral farm, has raised multiple Queen's Quineas winners and a Queen's Plate champion.
