The Academy Theatre, which hosts musical and theatrical acts throughout the year as Lindsay's premiere performance space, opened its doors in 1893. Visit this building to experience a behind-the-scenes look at this local landmark. Theatre staff will be running ghost tours throughout the day to introduce visitors to the building's haunted past. Adelaide Hunter was born in this farmhouse and lived here until she married John Hoodless (1881). Hunter Hoodless was known for establishing several organizations – including the Hamilton YMCA, the second branch of the Hamilton Victorian Order of Nurses, and the world's first Women's Institute. Today, the homestead is owned by the Federation of Women's Institutes and operates as a museum.

Officially opened on September 30, 2014, The Advanced Research Complex is a research building at the University of Ottawa, dedicated to multidisciplinary work in Earth sciences, physics and engineering. Guests of Doors Open 2026 will be able to take part in hands-on demos for all ages, conversations with local researchers and laboratory tours. 

Founded in 1857, Albert College is Canada’s oldest independent co-ed day and boarding school. Albert College provides an enriched curriculum for approximately 300 students, pre-kindergarten to grade 12. A "home away from home" to students from Canada and 15 other nations, the school embraces curricular and co-curricular activities through Albert’s Five A’s: Academics, Arts, Athletics, Active Citizenship and Adventure.

All Ours Studios has converted a stand-alone warehouse and retrofitted eight shipping containers to host private art-production spaces and shared community space. Each container features a full glass façade that is insulated, drywalled and powered to be warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. The site also has a communal tool-use workshop, gardens, courtyards and test-out mural walls.

Ameliasburgh Heritage Village has grown from one building (a Wesleyan Methodist Church built in 1868) into a complex of museum buildings and displays. Come and visit a log cabin, display barns, an operational blacksmith shop, a carpenter’s shop, a sap shanty, dairy and beekeeping buildings, a stone building housing the Goldie Corliss flywheel and the de Vries Natural Heritage Collection.

The Ancaster Old Township Hall, built by William H. Thuresson in 1870, was a centre of local politics and exhibitions, including Edison’s “magic phonograph” in 1878. Today, it remains a fine example of stone architecture with original features. Retained by the City of Hamilton, visitors during Doors Open Hamilton can explore and learn about ongoing restoration efforts.

Welcome to Annandale National Historic Site, one of Canada’s finest Victorian homes. Built in 1880 by Edwin Delevan Tillson, it showcases the esthetic movement style. Inside, visitors can explore hand-painted ceilings, intricate woodwork, stained-glass and richly decorated rooms, offering a glimpse into the Tillson family and the history of Tillsonburg.

Canada’s second-oldest rowing club is also the birthplace of the Toronto Argonauts football team. Located along the waterfront trail’s western shores, the club offers programs to fit different needs, abilities and interests. Take a tour of the facility, explore the Trophy Room, enjoy a coffee in the Henley Room, and see some of the best views of Lake Ontario.

Art and Culture in the Hall, located in City Hall, is an exhibit program that celebrates local artistic and creative talent. The current exhibits on display were created by Friends of Second Marsh and visual art students at Maxwell Heights Secondary School. Come visit the centre of municipal infrastructure and visual art, all in one!

The Art Gallery of Algoma's permanent collection includes nearly 6,000 works, with a strong focus on Canadian art. Highlights include pieces by the Group of Seven, Indigenous art, modernist work and pieces from other significant artistic movements. The Gallery Shop features products created by local artists, as well as items inspired by the Group of Seven and Indigenous art traditions.

The Auchmar estate, built in the 1850's for the Buchanan family in the Gothic Revival style, has been host to numerous owners and their stories. Over time, it transitioned through the Trigg and Young families, and later served as a convalescent home for the Royal Canadian Air Force and a religious retreat for the Hungarian Sisters of Social Service.

The Babcock Mill, a significant local landmark, was constructed in the 19th century as a grist mill and later adapted to function as a sawmill, basket making factory, and a truck body manufacturer. It played a pivotal role in the local economy. Today, under Loyalist Township’s ownership and management, it operates as a seasonal museum, showcasing its industrial heritage.

Barrel Heart Brewing is an upscale brewery and eatery in the old Dundas post office. The old-world brewing traditions are perfectly suited to the post office vibe. Visitors can enjoy lunch in the taproom, buy a few bottles of beer, or simply drink in the beauty of the location in a landmark Dundas building.

The Bata Shoe Museum is North America's only museum dedicated to exploring the history and cultural significance of footwear, housed in Canadian architect Raymond Moriyama's award-winning five-floor structure. The Bath Museum offers a glimpse into the rich heritage of one of Ontario’s oldest communities. Established to preserve/share artifacts from the area’s early settlement period, the museum highlights the village’s Loyalist roots and its development over time. Now owned and managed by Loyalist Township, the museum provides visitors with an opportunity to explore local history through diverse exhibits.

Bayview Yards is Ottawa’s one-stop business acceleration shop — bringing together innovators, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, investors and community members. Built as a municipal works building, it once contained machinery storage and repair shops, stables, offices and stockrooms. Built of reinforced concrete with brick panels, it exemplifies the modern industrial architecture popular in Canada from the 1940s to the 1970s.

Experience the birthplace of the telephone at the Bell Homestead National Historic Site. Tour the furnished family home of the Bell family from 1870 to 1881, where Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1874. The site also features the Henderson House, Canada’s first telephone business office from 1877, and an exhibit gallery showcasing early telecommunications.

This fascinating, modern fire station houses administration, communication and fire prevention services. There is a museum attached that shows the history of Belleville fire services, where you can explore memorabilia and view the interesting Loyalty, Tradition and Progress exhibit. You can also see the Firefighter Memorial Rose Garden outside the main entrance, which was unveiled on September 11, 2022.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, owned and operated by PortsToronto, is a world-class, award-winning airport. Located on Toronto Island, it offers service to more than 20 cities in Canada and the United States. Doors Open visitors can explore the underwater pedestrian tunnel, the electric ferry, interactive exhibits and a rare chance to get up close with the airport’s safety vehicles.

This artistic collective presents a professional and engaging environment in which completed artworks are exhibited alongside live painting and drawing sessions. Visitors have a unique opportunity to observe the artistic process and gain a deeper appreciation of the techniques, discipline and creativity behind each work. Audiences are invited to experience art as an evolving and living process.

Originally a farm purchased in 1840 by Thomas Fenby Boynton, the Boynton family built the current brick house in 1875 to replace a log home. Boynton House is a community art exhibition space: explore Viewpoints 2026, the annual juried art show of the Markham Group of Artists showcasing a broad spectrum of artistic styles. The works reflect strong artistic integrity and celebrate ingenuity, inventiveness, and imagination.

The Brantford Airport was established in 1939 as a Second World War flight training base. Currently, it is used for flight training, general aviation and aircraft maintenance. During Doors Open, visit the Flight Centre where club members will provide a guided tour of the airport and its history, and explain what is happening there today.
