Albion Hotel Doors Open Gravenhurst

Albion Hotel

After leasing the original unfinished structure, Frank Wasley purchased the Albion in 1880. Destroyed in the 1887 Great Fire, it was rebuilt in 1888. The three-storey structure featured 25 rooms, an elaborate balcony and Romanesque arched windows. Renovated in the 1980s, the building was commemorated with a plaque in 2016. Arts at the Albion has given the building new life.

Gravenhurst Opera House Doors Open Gravenhurst

Gravenhurst Opera House

This opera house remains a bustling cultural centre in Gravenhurst’s historical downtown. In 1934, John Holden and his Good Companions presented the first summer theatre in Canada here. A variety of concerts and theatre events take place all summer long, contributing to the visitor experience in Muskoka. The Gravenhurst Opera House continues to be “A Tradition Worth Coming Back For!”

Heritage Boatworks Doors Open Gravenhurst

Heritage Boatworks

Observe traditional Muskoka boat building of the early 1900s as a group of dedicated volunteers works to restore a variety of wooden boats and canoes. Admire the restoration work that these talented people have already completed. They demonstrate the craftsmanship that was a hallmark of the famous boat-building workshops and traditions throughout Muskoka.

Muskoka Airport Doors Open Gravenhurst

Muskoka Airport

This airport was constructed in 1933. During the Second World War, the Royal Canadian Air Force conducted flight training here. The field was made available to the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 1942 and hundreds of Norwegians trained here. In 2001, Norwegian Training in Canada during the Second World War was designated as an event of national historical significance.
